Pfft, they got the stripper model to get the manual, then bitch about the basic ICE components. Well duh, the auto-only higher trim levels come with the nice touch screen Bose doomahjingys.

the GT doesn't have a touch screen or Bose. All models are fairly stripped down. The higher models only add HIDs, leather, side skirts, spoiler, heated mirrors and seats, auto headlights, rain sensing wipers and 17" wheels. All trim levels are pretty stripped down. And yes that's my car.

You are correct. MY BAD :(
I work at a Mazda dealer in parts and just figured that they would have added it by now, since every other Mazda has had a radio with built in display on the higher end trims.
Shows you how few we sell and service.

its a good thing for me since I don't lose much that I can't add to the car myself. Its a unique little jewel in Mazda's already excellent lineup tucked away behind the 3, 6 and CX5. I just wish it came with foglights instead of requiring a $300 (cheapest I've found with switch) accessory. The only thing the 5 sells better than is the 2. Mazda sells about 15k units a year, which isn't too bad considering the cart had received absolutely no advertising.

I had a 5 back when they came out in '06. Good little van. Some teething problems, but back then they advertised it heavily and couldn't keep up with demand. I actually came out ahead trading it in on a CX-7 (speaking of teething problems....). The sliding doors were PERFECT back when my kids were in rear-facing car seats. And it was small and nimble enough to keep me happy behind the wheel.
I'm not a fan of the restyle, and it doesn't quite fit the lineup. It's.... unique. Maybe they'll keep it around and replace it with something styled along the lines of the 3 and 6.
Shame about the fog lights, $300 is about what I would pay for a set all in. Not much wiggle room in those.

the first gen is definitely better looking on the outside but the second gen interior layout and red lighting is better IMO. I hate the green dash lights on the gen1. The styling has grown on me but yes it doesn't really fit in Mazda's lineup and I doubt they sell enough to justify a complete SkyActiv makeover. My kids are 1 and 3 so the sliding doors let me take my sweetsss time to unload them and not worry about other cars trying to park or back out next to me as I do it. The CX7 is sweet, eventually I'll hunt down a stock manifold and turbo for some fun...
